Diplomate in Acupuncture, Nationally Board Certified
Arthur Makaris was in the right place at the right time. Shortly after President Nixon formalized relations with the People’s Republic of China in 1972, Dr. Tin Yau So came from Hong Kong to teach acupuncture to Americans. At the time, Arthur was studying traditional kung fu from Sifu Pui Chan -- who happened to come from a neighboring village to Dr. So, back in Guanzghou. Arthur met Dr. So on one of his visits to the martial arts studio, and the rest is history.
Dr. So is considered one of the founding fathers of acupuncture in the united states. In 1978, with the help of others, founded the New England School of Acupuncture. Arthur was part of its second graduating class in 1980. Over the past 40 years, Arthur has performed tens of thousands of acupuncture treatments. He has worked tirelessly to incorporate and educate the holistic paradigm of Traditional Chinese medicine into our culture. In 2000, he was the first acupuncturist to obtain practice and consulting privileges at the University of Vermont Medical Center, a position he still holds today.
With his students and patients, who seek better health and healing processes, Arthur Makaris is motivated to seek deeper understanding and find simplicity in the complex.

At an early age, Diana Vachon started learning and practicing meditation. With a sincere passion for self-discovery and the healing arts, she became a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner. In 1999, she started practicing martial arts and qigong with Arthur Makaris, L.Ac., in Essex Junction, VT. Fascinated with the connections and transformations the practice of qigong can facilitate, Diana apprenticed with Arthur for eight years to learn Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2008, she became a Vermont licensed acupuncturist. In 2012, she became certified in Chinese Herbal Medicine.
Diana is very grateful for all the wonderful teachers and opportunities in her life. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and practice with others to facilitate healing and understand life more deeply, while cultivating compassion to be the change she wants to see in the world.

It was originally through yoga and meditation that Greg found Taoist philosophy and he was opened up to the ideas of East Asian Medicine. His interest grew after studying Qigong and Kung Fu with Arthur Makaris, and he moved to Seattle to attend the Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine where he was trained in Orthopedic Acupuncture, Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture, Osteopathic palpation techniques, Tuina and Shiatsu massage, and East Asian Herbal Medicine.
Greg has experience working with many different patient populations, from traumatic injury to chronic pain, digestive complaints, insomnia, anxiety, infertility, stress, autoimmune conditions, skin conditions, Post-Viral Syndromes such as Covid and Lyme Disease, and more. Each treatment is personalized for you.
Before going to Acupuncture school, Greg graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies where he focused on Ecological Agriculture and Environmental Education. He ran his own vegetable farm for five years before realizing his interests were always pulling him towards the healing professions. His years of farm labor have helped inform him about the natural world, body mechanics, alignment, and how to nurture and heal.
Office Manager
Skye Makaris is Arthur's daughter, office manager, and in-house copy editor. She moonlights as a living historian and can often be found hand-sewing 18th-century clothing at her desk.
